Getting Started — Measurements Guide
Before your first login, take a few minutes to gather your vehicle measurements and tare weights. Having these ready means you can set up your truck in AxleTrack and start calculating immediately.
Why measurements matter
AxleTrack calculates axle weight distribution based on the physical dimensions of your vehicle. The accuracy of every calculation depends entirely on the accuracy of what you enter. Take your measurements carefully — do it once, do it right.
Rigid Trucks — 3 measurements required
Note: For rigid trucks, "trailer" refers to the load deck or flatbed — not a separate trailer.
WBL — Wheelbase Length Distance from the centre of the steer axle group to the centre of the drive axle group.
HL — Headboard to Load Length Distance from the centre of the drive axle group to the headboard.
LL — Load Length Overall distance from the headboard to the rear of the load deck.
Semi-Trailers — 5 measurements required
Prime Mover (2 measurements)
WBLpm — Prime Mover Wheelbase Length Distance from the centre of the steer axle group to the centre of the drive axle group.
KPos — King Pin Offset Distance from the centre of the turntable (where the king pin attaches) to the centre of the prime mover drive axle group.
If the king pin is in front of the drive axle group centre, enter a positive number. If it is behind the drive axle group centre, enter a negative number.
Trailer (3 measurements)
WBLt — Trailer Wheelbase Length Distance from the centre of the trailer axle group to the centre of the king pin.
HL — Headboard Length Distance from the centre of the trailer axle group to the headboard.
LL — Load Length Overall distance from the headboard to the rear of the trailer.
Axle weights — what you'll need
Maximum weights Enter the maximum permitted weight for each axle group for your truck and trailer combination. These are set by the manufacturer and found on your vehicle's compliance plate.
Tare weights Weigh your vehicle unloaded to obtain the tare weight of each axle group. When weighing, ensure:
Full fuel tank
All tools, straps, and equipment normally carried in storage boxes are loaded
The driver is seated in the cab at the time of weighing
Axle group tare weights refer to the combined weight of all axles within that group.
The best axle weigh results are obtained from a split weighbridge. Show the weighbridge operator the information needed and they will be able to assist you.
